b for bear: a tall back and round tummy
A bear gives a picture cue for lowercase b's tall back and rounded lower shape. Follow the model and trace the letter, with open space for attempts and optional bear copying.
FIVE WAYS TO TRY ONE LETTER
A bear begins this five-page set. Follow the tall stem and lower bowl of b, or compare it with d and p before looking at bat, bib and bun. Finish by colouring the bear with a bun; an adult can name the pictures, and word copying is optional.
One activity per page, in the order below. Choose the PDF for your A4 or US Letter paper. There is no cover or blank page.

A bear gives a picture cue for lowercase b's tall back and rounded lower shape. Follow the model and trace the letter, with open space for attempts and optional bear copying.

Start lowercase b at the top of its tall stem. An adult can show the downward stroke, return up the stem and turn around the lower bowl before the child traces or tries a large b.

Find six lowercase b letters among d and p. Compare the side of each tall stem with an adult, then circle or colour the b shapes.

Bat, bib and bun each begin with b. Name the pictures together and find the marked first letter; bib has another b at the end, and word tracing or copying is optional.

A bear holds a bun in this colouring scene. Practise a short b row; an adult can help with optional bear or bun tracing and copying.
Start high and come down the stem. Travel back up, then curve around the lower bowl. The numbered arrows mark directions within the movement, rather than separate pencil lifts.
Compare the left stem of b with the right stem of d. The p drops below the writing line; its grid rows have extra room for that descending stroke. Look for six b letters, pointing or circling with an adult.
Say bat, bib and bun together. The first b is marked in each printed word; bib also has b at the end. Colour the bat animal or the bear scene without tracing whole words if that suits the child today.
For uppercase and lowercase together, try the Bb alphabet colouring and tracing sheet. These five activities focus on lowercase b, including bat, bib, bun. See printing and paper-size help when choosing a PDF.
Return to the letter practice shelf to choose another available activity. Follow the child’s interest and stop when they have had enough.
