Start lowercase b at the top of its tall stem. An adult can show the downward stroke, return up the stem and turn around the lower bowl before the child traces or tries a large b.

Say bat, bib and bun together. Listen for b at the start.
Start high. Come down the tall stem, travel back up and curve around the lower bowl to meet the line.
