Start with one page and an adult model

Say the picture word together, then listen for the sound before writing. Follow the marked start and stroke direction with a finger or pencil. Trace one path and leave plenty of time for a few independent attempts. The single-storey a and g are deliberate; keep the pronunciation used by your family or school.

The five-page u pack combines umbrella with a large movement, a find-u activity, sun/mug/bus words and a duck-in-mud scene. Use short u as in umbrella. In sock and duck, ck represents the end /k/ sound; the two written letters are not two separate sounds here.

The complete booklet has 24 activity pages, with no cover or blank separators. Five smaller packs each contain four main targets. These activities are not a complete alphabet or a promise of reading or handwriting attainment. An adult can model each task and leave the longer picture-word copying for another day.

To explore uppercase and lowercase pairs across the whole alphabet, choose the separate Aa–Zz picture worksheets.
