A dog sits beside a cooking pot with a lid nearby. Colour the scene and practise a round lowercase o; an adult can name dog and pot, with optional word copying.
Begin near the upper right of o. Travel left and around the curve, then return to meet the start. There is no added right stem. Follow the marked movement with a finger before making a few round shapes on the guides.
Compare the closed o with the opening of c and the right stem of single-storey a. Find six o letters among the twelve choices. Naming the shapes with an adult is separate from listening for sounds in words.
Say dog, cooking pot and fox together, using your usual pronunciation rather than changing an accent to match a model. Point to the marked middle o in each label. Families may pronounce these vowels differently; the written target stays in the middle. Colour the pictures or the dog-and-pot scene without needing to read or copy the whole words.
For uppercase and lowercase together, try the Oo alphabet colouring and tracing sheet. These five activities focus on lowercase o, including dog, pot, fox. See printing and paper-size help when choosing a PDF.
