Begin with umbrella
Follow the marked lowercase u movement, trace it, then leave room for your own tries.
FIVE WAYS TO TRY ONE LETTER
Start with the umbrella movement, spot u among other letters, or find it in sun, mug and bus. The five-page pack includes a muddy duck scene; word copying is optional.
One activity per page, in the order below. Choose the paper size in your printer; the pack has no cover or blank pages.

Follow the marked lowercase u movement, trace it, then leave room for your own tries.

Follow a large lowercase u with a finger or broad mark before trying it on the page.

Find u among other letters, including n, then trace and write a few.

Look for u in sun, mug and bus. Tracing or copying a whole word is optional.

Colour the duck scene, practise u and choose whether to trace mud or duck.
Start at the marked point and travel down, around, up the right side, then back down. The open top helps distinguish lowercase u from n. Say umbrella together before listening for the short u in sun, mug and bus; looking at letters and listening to sounds are separate tasks.
The muddy duck has more to colour. Its final ck makes one /k/ sound, while u is heard inside the word. Trace a few letters or stop after finger movement if that suits the child today.
For a picture with both uppercase and lowercase forms, use the Aa–Zz Uu colouring and tracing sheet. The ck sock activity explores that two-letter ending separately. See printing help for paper sizes and page ranges.
Choose another available letter from the letter practice shelf. These are supplementary activities, not a lesson sequence.
