s for snake: colour, say and write
Colour a curling snake, listen for its first sound and follow the lowercase s movement. Trace the letter and try a few roomy attempts; copying snake is optional.
FIVE WAYS TO TRY ONE LETTER
The snake gives a curved picture cue for lowercase s. Find s among z and c, talk about sun, sip and sit, and colour a snake in a sunny scene. An adult can show the action pictures before the child tries any writing.
One activity per page, in the order below. Choose the PDF for your A4 or US Letter paper. There is no cover or blank page.

Colour a curling snake, listen for its first sound and follow the lowercase s movement. Trace the letter and try a few roomy attempts; copying snake is optional.

Follow a large lowercase s beside the snake. An adult can model the movement before finger tracing and a few pencil attempts. Whole-word copying is optional.

Find six lowercase s letters among z and c. Compare their shapes before circling the matches, tracing and trying a few letters on the guides.

Name sun, sip, sit with an adult and find the first written s in each label. The pictures support talk; tracing or whole-word copying is optional and adult-supported.

Colour snake in the sun and practise lowercase s. Name snake and sun together; copying either word is optional with an adult.
Start at the marked point. Curve left, sweep right through the middle, then curl left to finish. Watch the marked path and try it with a finger. Leave room for a few unhurried pencil attempts.
Compare the two changing curves of s with c's one open curve and z's angled line. Six s letters are hidden in the finding grid. An adult can name the letters before the child circles or colours them.
Name the sun, describe a person taking a sip and another sitting down. These actions give the pictures their meanings. Listen for s at the start, then colour the snake and sun without requiring whole-word reading or copying.
For uppercase and lowercase together, try the Ss alphabet colouring and tracing sheet. These five activities focus on lowercase s, including sun, sip, sit. See printing and paper-size help when choosing a PDF.
Return to the letter practice shelf to choose another available activity. Follow the child’s interest and stop when they have had enough.
