c for cat: a curve with an open side
Colour a cat while exploring the open curve of lowercase c. An adult can model the sound and movement before letter tracing; a short cat word model offers optional extra practice.
FIVE WAYS TO TRY ONE LETTER
Find the open side of lowercase c with a cat picture and a large curved movement. Cat, cup and can share the /k/ sound at the start in this set. Choose one page or the five-page pack, which ends with a cat beside a cup; word copying is optional.
One activity per page, in the order below. Choose the PDF for your A4 or US Letter paper. There is no cover or blank page.

Colour a cat while exploring the open curve of lowercase c. An adult can model the sound and movement before letter tracing; a short cat word model offers optional extra practice.

Keep the right side open as you make a large lowercase c. Follow the curve from the upper right with a finger, then use the tracing and blank guides for a few attempts.

Look for the open curve of c among closed o shapes and e shapes with a middle line. An adult can name the twelve letters before the child marks the six c choices.

Say cat, cup and can with an adult and notice the /k/ sound at the start of these examples. Colour the three pictures; tracing or copying is optional.

Colour a cat sitting beside a cup, then try a few lowercase c letters. An adult can say cat and cup; tracing or copying either word is optional.
Begin near the upper right, travel left and around, then finish with a gap on the right. Follow the large curve with a finger before trying a smaller c.
An o closes all the way around. The e has a short line across its middle. Name these differences together on the finding page and look for six open c shapes among the twelve choices.
An adult can name the cat, cup and can while pointing to the initial c. These words use /k/; c can represent other sounds elsewhere. The handled cup and metal can are picture cues for the words, and the child need not read or copy them independently.
For uppercase and lowercase together, try the Cc alphabet colouring and tracing sheet. These five activities focus on lowercase c, including cat, cup, can. See printing and paper-size help when choosing a PDF.
Return to the letter practice shelf to choose another available activity. Follow the child’s interest and stop when they have had enough.
